Capitalism, much like Organised Religion needs a lot of work; great change is upon us.
SHAREHOLDER ACTIVISM
Yesterday in London, 31% of Barclays Bank shareholders did not approve the executive remuneration report. Conceptually, shareholder activism - where vocal and possibly aggressive investors play a critical role in holding management teams accountable - crystallised for me through the actions and subsequent reporting, of and by, Stephen Mayne.* A long time agitator of corporate executives at Annual General Meetings, Stephen takes this seriously, buying shares in News Corporation (so Orwellian isn’t it?) and flying to New York so he could ask prickly questions of Rupert Murdoch and the board of directors; an obligation as the board to all shareholders.
*Stephen is a City of Manningham councillor (in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs) and is best known as Crikey.com.au founder, an online independent news service, sold in 2005. In 2007 he launched The Mayne Report — a daily videoblog and subscription newsletter focusing on shareholder activism and corporate governance issues.

Homophobic Presbyterians Fight Back
“you soft liberals can’t stop us
from sloshing around in regressive
(and incredibly naïve) ideals”
“God has called us to respond to his call, step into something new and hold firm to our understanding of scripture.” In an historic vote Sunday morning (22/04/12), the largest Presbyterian church in Colorado voted overwhelmingly to leave its governing body and join a new, more conservative denomination. An estimated 95.5 percent of the 1,769 congregants who cast ballots at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Colorado Springs voted to leave the mainstream Presbyterian Church USA in favor of the newly-created Evangelical Covenant Order of Presbyterians.

love it radio national blew my mind, henry rollins then enlightened discussion on “the third way” between the welfare state and rampant capitalism. thoughts, conversations earlier swirling … what do we want from society? Our world.
BELIEVE IN A VIRTUOUS COMPETITION OF HONOUR - shame the idea that it is ok to be rich and make no social contribution. It’s not fine to become as rich as possible, to not care about the world.
CAPITALISM AS TOTALITARIANISM. Welcome to now. State and corporation acting in alliance.
The elite don’t believe in anything…the rich care about the money, the politicians about getting/staying “on top” and the technocrats, bureaucrats, the people that “manage” the world, well…you need to believe in things to do anything, really. Ch-ch-change!
Hope to it!

Making Education Brain Science
LAST month, two kindergarten classes at the Blue School were hard at work doing what many kindergartners do: drawing. One group pursued a variation on the self-portrait. “That’s me thinking about my brain,” one 5-year-old-girl said of her picture.

“Lockheed Martin values the relationship established between our company and the Egyptian customer since the first F-16s were delivered in the early 1980s,” said Laura F. Siebert, a spokeswoman for the company, which is based in Fort Worth.
Senator Patrick J. Leahy, Democrat of Vermont, who added the certification requirements to legislation authorizing military aid to Egypt, called the decision to waive them regrettable, and the resumption of aid “business as usual.”
“In large part, there are U.S. jobs that are reliant on the U.S.-Egypt strong military-to-military relationship,” a senior State Department official said, speaking on condition of anonymity under rules set by the department. In deciding how to proceed, the official said, Mrs. Clinton and her colleagues “were looking at our overall national security goals, as well as any domestic issues.”

Ruddy was stabbed in the back because of the mining tax, so plain and clear. The fat, disgusting Palmer and Rinehart (along with others no doubt) like the tale wagging the dog; complicit politicians still stumbling through long rumbling repercussions. Dickheads the lot.
